Watkins Glen International
Despite being the second shortest race on the Sprint Cup schedule — 220.5 miles versus 219 at Infineon Raceway — there is never a shortage of complaints among some Cup Series regulars during their annual trek to historic Watkins Glen International.
That’s understandable. The 2.45-mile road course forces many drivers out of their comfort zones.
While some drivers consider it a victory to just finish on the lead lap, a slew of others have blossomed into top-notch talents at “The Glen” — rivaling road course notables like Juan Pablo Montoya and Marcos Ambrose.
The track itself is a mixture of fast- and slow-speed corners. Several elevation changes add to the excitement of racing at the picturesque upstate New York circuit.
